Subway Cup Match Report 25/6/10

State League JAGS 54 (J Hazel 33/38, S Penn 21/23) defeated by Oakdale 58

State League Reserves JAGS 57 (F Birch 31/34, E van den Munckhof 26/28) defeated Oakdale 47

The games against Oakdale on Friday night provided mixed results for the club with the Reserves winning and the League losing.

The Reserves team played well to end up comfortable winners in the end by 10 goals and that put Jags ahead of Oakdale on the ladder, with both teams being even on points before the match.

The League game was an even first half with both team’s going goal for goal, with all goalers almost unable to miss!! The third quarter proved to be a topsy turvey affair with first one team and then other having periods of dominance. The final quarter saw Jags fight back to be one goal behind, but not just able to have the momentum to take the ascendancy and Oakdale finally running out winners by 4 goals.

Club Patron Neil Dansie, affectionately known as “Mr D” celebrates his birthday on the 2 July, The club wishes Mr D a happy birthday and hopes he is having a wonderful time in the UK with the Saints Boys cricket teams and happy holiday after that.

Saturday 26 June 2010 Match Reports

AMND JAGS 40 defeated by Adelaide Wildcats 53. In what was a well contested game Jags got off to a good start in the first, converting a few quick intercepts into a nice early lead. Unfortunately, we couldn't hold the Wildcats off and they ended up taking it away just before quarter time. Jags showed bursts of promise, but our consistency wasn't there as the Wildcats shooters settled in despite great pressure from our defence. We changed it up in the last quarter, winning it by a few and proving that we do have what it takes when we put our minds to it and play our game. It's time to bring back the power of the pink undies, and play like we know we can with a solid 4 quarters next week! Written by Kirby Thomson. Coach Bordan Kosandiak.

A Grade JAGS 31 defeated by Adelaide Wildcats 56

B2 JAGS 31 defeated by Matrics 70

C1 JAGS 51 defeated Pembroke O.S. 45

C2 JAGS 43 defeated City Coasters 42. The team had an excellent come from behind win today. With only 7 players available due to illness and injury, the girls staged an amazing come back in the last quarter from 9 goals down to win by 1. This win will cement our spot in the top four on the tightly contended ladder this week. Coach Anita Quinlivan

Sub Junior 6 JAGS 11 defeated by Woods Panthers 34. Unfortunately today was not a good day for the girls. Our passing was the main thing that let us down, the opposition put us under pressure with their defence, but we also put ourselves under pressure by continually passing to a contest instead of an open player. Hopefully the girls learnt something from today’s loss and we can work on this at training and take our learnings into future games. A loss always provides an opportunity to learn and improve. Coach Katrina Day.

Sub Junior 7 JAGS 15 defeated by Adelaide Wildcats 23

Sub Junior 9 JAGS 11 defeated by Oakdale 16. What a start to a Saturday our team usually plays at 10.00am but had a reschedule during the week for a 9.00am start. Then with only 7 players (6 all ok and 1 not well) we started brilliantly against Oakdale who had been dropped from a higher grade. Then our unwell player Millie (GS) slipped and fell over and popped her shoulder out at the beginning of the 2nd quarter - usually a kid would go down screaming, not Millie she calmly asked the umpire for held time and waited for someone to come to her on the court. This brought our team down to 6 players and meant I had to put a player who doesn't play goalie in at GS. At half time we were 1 goal down. My defence was magnificent with Nicole GK, Georgie GD and Ashley WD like a rock they stopped about 20 goals. Ingrid at C was like she was on ever ready batteries she played C for the whole game and did not stop. My goalie's Jade GA and Jaida GS weren't the tallest combination but they played like they were 7 feet tall and Jaida had to slip into a very unfamiliar position of GS. They played their hearts out and did not give up. They did not complain once, they just got out there and played 200%. Credit also goes out to the parents as they kept positive support around me and the girls. All I can say is WELL DONE and THANKYOU." Coach Dani Johnson.

Primary 2 JAGS 26 defeated Western Jets 15. The girls had a great win, moving the ball around well with confidence, leading towards the ball and passing off. Well done to Hannah in WD with great intercepts and chasing of the ball. Accurate shooting by Alex and Mikayla, great mid court work by Brianna and Emily and great defence work by Victoria and Charlotte. Fantastic work girls. Coach Karen Braund.

Primary 4 JAGS 21 defeated Tango 12. “Not much more can be said about the team today but WELL DONE!! All players contributed across the court for the whole four quarters to sink Tango. With two very tough rounds to contend with (this one and next week) the girls showed that they can follow instructions, USE their skills to the teams advantage and have faith in their team mates’ abilities. Lily deserves a mention in round 8 for marked skills improvement at C this week, especially after not being 100% well during the week. Emma and Giorgia successfully achieved many two handed intercepts in defence and caused turnover after turnover. Abby was tenacious and impressed the crowd with her performance in WD and Ahna, Brittany and the twins were as reliable as ever. If the team can play at this level next week against the top team, Ladybirds, we will take their place and sit pretty at the top of the ladder! Yay Team! Have confidence girls…you have every reason to! Keep up the great work.” Coach Sue Jones.

Primary 6 JAGS (1) 10 defeated Oakdale 4. Well it's half way through the season and the team is travelling superbly. The girls continue to play great netball and today defeated the top team Oakdale. We were sitting in second place however after today's win, I believe we may be top! Brilliant accurate shooting from Alana, Brooke and Emily, awesome defence from Ryleigh, Misty, Jessica and Emily and beautiful feeding and drive through the mid court from Jessica, Tia, Caitlin and Evelyn proved to be a challenge for Oakdale. The girls have improved immensely throughout the season, opening up the court, leading to the ball, attacking and defending all over the court, keeping opposition teams to a few goals, while scoring consistently in our attacking end. I am so proud of all of the girls and look forward to a great second half of the season. Keep up the great work girls! Coach Rosie Petrilli .

Primary 6 JAGS (2) 5 defeated by Woods Panthers 10. What a disappointing game after the great teamwork we saw last week. The opposition were nearly always playing in front of us and causing intercepts because of this. A lot of our defending was only half efforts and therefore didn’t work . On a bright note Maddie did a good job in defence but she can’t do it all by herself. Adelle and Kyra are developing a good understanding at centre passes. Coaches award to Maddie for trying hard in defence and stopping a lot of shots at goal and Adelle for good leading and teamwork in goals. Coach Sarah Morris

Sub Primary Newton Jaguars 9 defeated Matrics 1. Well done to all the girls - you all played a great game. The goals were shared around this week - Stephanie 4, Jade 3, Tahlia 1 and Josie 1. It was a bonus too to be able to play indoors!! Thank you to Matrics for lending us a player each quarter as we only had 6 this week. Coach Elyse Moore.
