FRIDAY 28 MAY 2010

What a fantastic performance on Friday night by the Reserves to knock over Contax by 2 goals! A nail biting finish to a closely contested see sawing game ensured that spectators were on the edge of their seats through to the final whistle. All girls played their part in the victory and a big thank to our supporters who helped lift the girls throughout the game, especially at the end. The result keeps us in touch with Cougars in 4th place.

The League took on an undefeated Contax, who remained unbeaten after we had finished playing them!! The loss by 18 goals was one of Contax’s smaller winning margins for the year and didn’t really reflect the closeness of play on the night, as verified by the Contax coach’s words to Rod after the game. However, consistency of execution is still a limiting factor in our play over the whole game, evidenced by long periods of time when the margin between the two sides was less than 5 goals, only to blowout to the final result. The endeavour of the girls against a team with a starting 7 of which 5 were recent Tbirds couldn’t be faulted and the game was quite physical with Jags not taking a backward step. An innovative approach by the coach pre game saw the girls warm up with some boxing in the dressing room. Was it true that Sally, who sparred with the girls wore a mask that was in the image of a certain coach?!

SATURDAY 29 MAY 2010

AMND JAGS 46 defeated by Oakdale 41. United by bonds pink knickers OVER the inbuilt bottoms of the uniform, the AMND league side powered to a 5 goal win against Oakdale. The first half was practically even, however the third quarter Jags presented with greater skill, determination and prowess to take the lead and held onto it throughout the fourth quarter. Excellent defensive pressure was a feature yet again with Rhode, Dunn and Toner providing plenty of turnovers. O’Shaughnessy and Mickan capitalised on these opportunities, only missing a handful of shots on goal. Best player goes to newly appointed Vice Captain Vikki ‘Mars’ Nelson playing a consistent, gutsy game in Centre. Walter and Thomas provided support on the attacking wing. AMND league’s 2010 season has undeniably taken a turn for the better after winning the second game in a row against an impressive opposition. ‘Girls’ within the team are looking forward to donning the pretty pink undies in future and combining to genuinely pursue a finals campaign. Coach Bordon Kosandiak (pepper tree reviver).

A Grade JAGS 35 defeated by Oakdale 48

B2 JAGS 30 defeated by Woods Panthers 40

C1 JAGS 47 defeated Adelaide University 29

C2 JAGS 51 defeated Woods Panthers 19. The team had a good return to form this week with a win over Woods Panthers. The girls settled well in the wet conditions and powered away in the last quarter. Coach Anita Quinlivan.

C5 JAGS 41 defeated Contax 9

Intermediate 1 JAGS 48 drew with Contax (2) 48. After a slow start that saw Jags go down by 5 goals in the first quarter, the team lifted to be 2 goals ahead at half time. Strong play in the third quarter lead by Claudia in WA, saw Jags lead by 4 at the final break, only to let Contax (2) back into the game in the final quarter and force the draw. Coach Jodie Freund.

Intermediate 3 JAGS 31 defeated Matrics (2) 16

Intermediate 4 JAGS 22 defeated by Tango 31. A good effort in difficult conditions to keep the score down considering Tango are undefeated and have been winning well. Coach Kaye O'Rielly

Junior 6 JAGS 28 defeated North East Zodiacs 13

Junior 7 JAGS 15 defeated by Adelaide Wildcats 25

Sub Junior 3 JAGS (1) 19 defeated JAGS (2) 11. Despite the revolting weather and everyone being soaked to the skin, the girls put in a creditable performance and really worked hard on their intensity at the ball (something we have been working on at training). There were very few complaints relating to the weather and I was very proud of a team who rallied back from our last match and came up with a win. Well done to our new combination of goalers in Lauren and Brydie (also our co-captains of the team) for taking up the challenge and producing a fine effort. Well done to everyone. Coach JAGS (1) Karen O’Shaughnessy.

Sub Junior 5 JAGS 13 defeated by Woods Panthers 21

Sub Junior 6 JAGS 4 defeated by Tango 17. Today was not our best day, with a number of things going against us. The weather was terrible (it bucketed down for almost the whole of the second quarter) and unfortunately we did not handle the conditions well. A lack of strong leads in front to the ball forced us to make some bad passing options, continually trying to pass over the opposition to hit a target and having the ball intercepted on most of these occasions. Our normally accurate shooters failed to make the most of their limited opportunities, and the player rotations and positional changes just didn’t gel for us. Back to the drawing board this week at training. On a positive note, the girls team spirit continues to develop and they played the game out, never giving up or dropping their heads. We would also like to thank Josephine from the SJ5’s for helping us out today. Coach Katrina Day.

Sub Junior 7 JAGS 17 defeated Woods Panthers 12

Sub Junior 9 JAGS 18 defeated Cheerio (2) 9

Primary 2 JAGS 10 defeated by Garville 15. We had a slow first half only scoring 2 goals, but the second half of the game the girls started to move the ball around well. The wet weather made it difficult to score goals, but we managed to score 8 in the second half of the game. A fantastic effort by Emily with some great interceptions and working the ball down into the goalies. Coach Karen Braund

Primary 4 JAGS 17 defeated Garville 14. Round 5 saw the Primary 2 team upgraded to Div 4. It was the closest game we have had this season so the challenge was definitely greater however the weather proved to be the ultimate challenge!! All nine players soldiered on in horrendous conditions to defeat Garville by 3 goals. Tegan and Jasmine played in goals the whole game and their accuracy definitely suffered in the rain, but this was completely understandable. There were more basic skill errors through the mid court in this game than the previous ones, again understandable in the conditions. I was so proud of the teams determination to continue and to strive for the win. Player of the day was without question however, Emma, who saved us many a potential Garville goal with her continuous, successful interceptions. She has definitely found herself a place in the GK position! All girls went home no doubt cold, wet and extremely proud of themselves, as did I, their coach. Well done Primary 2 – let’s do it again next week.” Coach Sue Jones

Primary 6 JAGS (1) 7 defeated Matrics 2.

Primary 6 JAGS (2) 3 defeated by Oakdale 16. First game in a higher division on a cold wet day made it very hard to throw and catch with confidence. We are still getting caught behind the opposition and then running into crowded areas. It was good to see Tara starting to defend in front and then turning and blocking the player at shots at goal. We had some good passages of play and started to throw longer passes to players in the clear but just need to work on consistency. Good try for the first wet day. Coaches award goes to Hannah for some really good passing in the second half. Coach Sarah Morris.

Sub Primary 2 JAGS 7 defeated Western Jets 1- game called off at Half Time. It was a very cold, wet and windy morning when our smallest and youngest players played this week. The weather was so bad that the Western Jets called the game off at half time as their players were getting quite distressed. Our girls played really well under very trying conditions. Stephanie played a fantastic game in goals, supported by Tahlia, Jade and Holly. Well done to everyone. Coach Elyse Morris
