Saturday 22 May 2010

Disappointing and opportunities missed was the only way to describe the results of the State League and Reserves results from Saturday’s games against Woods.

In the Reserves, a 10 goal deficit at the end of the first quarter proved too much for the girls to overcome for the rest of the game and while holding our own at times for the remaining quarters the team ultimately went down by 17 goals.

In the League, Jags had a Jekyll and Hyde day, giving Woods starts in both the first (5 goals ) and second (4 goals) quarters before clawing back in both quarters to be back on a even keel at halftime. The third showed some patches of bright play to take a lead during that quarter of 5 only to let Woods back into the game by the end of that quarter. Momentum stayed with Woods during the final quarter and they ended running out winners by 8. The result left a lot of people scratching their heads and wondering what had just happened. The Coach expressed his disappointment, with such a performance and bewilderment after such an excellent week on the training track.

However, that was last week, next week’s another game, the Jags spirit will back on show, bring on Contax!!

State League. JAGS 43 defeated by Panthers 51. State League Reserves. JAGS 38 defeated by Panthers 55.

AMND JAGS 51 defeated Woods Panthers 36. The AMND girls finally got over the finishing line producing a noteworthy win towards their finals dream. The girls had fallen short over the previous two weeks losing by one or two goals, but with great defensive pressure there were no opportunities for the Panthers to claw at. Woods never once let the girls play an easy game as spectators saw blood and many bodies crashing to the floorboards. A great team effort, a well deserved win, we’ve had the losses and now is the time for the wins. Coach Vicki Nelson

A Grade JAGS 48 defeated Woods Panthers 33

B2 JAGS 45 defeated Adelaide University 44

C1 JAGS 57 defeated Adelaide Wildcats 32

C2 JAGS 29 defeated by Flinders University 32. The suffered their third loss in a row. The girls put in a great effort in the second half, coming back from being 11 goals down to losing by just 3. Looking forward to having a comeback win against Woods Panthers next week. Coach Anita Quinlivan.

C5 JAGS 36 defeated Harlequin 12

Inter 1 JAGS 41 defeated by Garville 50

Inter 3 JAGS 48 defeated Garville 31. Continuing on our winning form sees us victorious over Garville. It was pleasing to see Taylor, promoted from Inter 4, rise to the occasion today, combining well with Morgan to shoot at a combined shooting accuracy of 77%. Good defence work created many turnovers, with Eloise outstanding with her numerous interceptions. Keep up the work rate girls, great game. Coach Leanne Nelson.

Inter 4 JAGS 36 defeated Contax 33. A good team performance, all contributed to a great win. Coach Kaye O'Rielly.

Junior 1 JAGS 27 defeated by Woods Panthers 42

Junior 2 JAGS 48 defeated by Woods Panthers 52

Junior 2 JAGS (1) 43 defeated Garville 20 and JAGS (2) 28 defeated by Cougars 39

Junior 6 JAGS 22 defeated by Cheerio 49

Junior 7 JAGS 20 defeated by Cougars 43

Sub Junior 2 JAGS 19 defeated by Cougars 24. After a really encouraging win last week, our team took a small step backwards in our game against Cougars on Saturday. Basic skills continue to let us down and in the end, Cougars were more intense in their endeavour to win the game. I was very pleased with our defensive end again as those players work very hard to provide a turnover. I am looking forward to a really fiery training session this week to work on those troubled areas of our game in the lead up to our next match. Coach Karen O’Shaughnessy.

Sub Junior 3 JAGS 22 defeated by Cougars 15

Sub Junior 4 JAGS 16 defeated by Matrics 35

Sub Junior 6 JAGS 27 defeated by Cougars 6. This week we went into the game with only the bare 7 players, but the girls all put another great effort to come away with a good win. The first quarter saw us start slowly with some very sloppy passing, but it did improve as the quarter closed. In the second quarter the girls turned it on with some much improved passing and great team play all over the court, setting us up towards a win. In the last two quarters we made some changes to give a couple of the girls opportunities to try other positions, which the girls enjoyed and did well at, and we managed to hold the opposition goalless in the last quarter. Another fantastic win for the team, keep learning, improving and enjoying your netball girls. Coach Katrina Day.

Sub Junior 7 JAGS 8 defeated by Cheerio (1) 15

Sub Junior 8 JAGS 23 defeated Western Jets 12

Primary 1 JAGS 10 defeated by Western Jets 28

Primary 5 JAGS 27 defeated Garville 9. The team has been very consistent this season, winning each game so far by similar margins. It is quite possible we could be playing in Div 4 next week and we all welcome the challenge. The girls are confident and continuing to learn as they go, always putting into practice on game day what we have focused on at training. This week, the girls ALL showed how they can use their “outside arms” to deflect passes and to also intercept with strong two handed catches when achievable. Our twins, Jasmine and Tegan put on a wonderful spectacle in goals during the second half of this week’s game. They should be congratulated on not only their shooting accuracy but also their ability to read off each other and support each other under the ring. Ahna also deserves a mention this week for very strong and determined play in WA. Well done girls. I am so pleased with the effort ALL players are contributing and look forward to the future challenges. Go Team! Coach Sue Jones.

Primary 6 JAGS 6 defeated by SA Ladybirds 34

Primary 7 JAGS 7 defeated by Garville 12. We were a bit slow starting and let them get in front in the first quarter but managed to fight back to be in front at half time. We continued to let them get in front at the passes and the result was a loss. We need to work on our defending (even though Tara really improved in the second half and gained a lot of intercepts) and our leading for the ball. They beat us by running into spaces better than we did. We did see some promising signs that if we try our best we can do really well. Coaches award to Tara for the great improvement in defence creating a lot of turnovers. Coach- Sarah Morris
