Good Week For Jags

10/05/2010

Res 61-29

League 67-37

The League and Reserves teams and supporters met early on Friday and planned the long trek to court 4 (again!) for the Subway Cup games against Harlequin. All spent the day gathering enough food and water to ensure everyone arrived healthy, but alas, the trip took its toll and Mandy Edwards and Nicki Wood didn't make it to the starting line while a few others felt off-colour as well. However the Jags spirit shone through with both League, 30 goals and Reserves, 32 goals, having easy victories. The Reserves team put on its best performance of the year and were consistent throughout, showing Sarah Parker's parents, who made the trip from Port Lincoln, a superior level of netball than the opposition.

The League started well, (a change their supporters enjoyed, especially Mr D, who didn't have to go for as many walks as previous weeks), and were untroubled to record their 5th win on the trot.

AMND - JAGS 40 were defeated by Cheerio 41. The game was a tightly contested match. Looking for our first win of the season the girls came out of the blocks firing and kept this intensity going to play four strong, consistent quarters. With great defensive pressure over the whole court giving us some opportunities Borden asked us to value our possession and capitalise on these turnovers. We once again need to focus on the positives and keep slogging away to get that first win on the board! Coach Bordon Kosandiak.

A Grade - JAGS 44 defeated Cheerio 40

B2 - JAGS 35 were defeated by Pembroke OS 47. A slow start in the first quarter resulted in 6 to 14 scoreline at the end of the first break, a determined second quarter effort saw the scores at half time level however we were unable to maintain the second quarter pressure allowing the game to slip away late in the final quarter. Coach Kevin Henderson.

C1 - JAGS 43 were defeated by Cheerio 46

C2 - JAGS 31 were defeated by Old Ignatians 37. The team had their first loss for the year losing to Old Ignatians. The girls had a slow start, being down 11 goals at the quarter time break but fought back hard to remain even in the second and fourth quarters and win the third quarter. Looking forward to playing this team again and redeeming the slow first quarter. Coach Anita Quinlivan.

C5 – JAGS 25 defeated Woods Panthers 6

Inter 1 – JAGS 46 defeated Tango 45. Yet another tough and physical game saw Jags come out victorious by 1 goal over Tango, for our first win of the season. An excellent second quarter saw the Jags girls begin to take control, although they had us all on the edge of our seats right until the final whistle. Excellent effort by all players. Coach Jodie Freund.

Inter 3 – JAGS 40 defeated Harlequin 39

Inter 4 – JAGS 25 defeated by Woods Panthers 40. Coach Kaye O’Rielly

J1 - JAGS 27 were defeated by Harlequin 45. In what could only be described as a combat with the contest delivering a new interpretation on Netball and undoubtedly stretching the boundaries we were able to stay in touch until 3/4 time. The final quarter unfortunately left us struggling to maintain the pressure and sticking with our game plan. Having now played a couple of the better teams we look forward to maintaining our form and intensity for the up and coming games. Coach Kevin Henderson.

J2 – JAGS 39 were defeated by Tango (2) 55

J4 – JAGS (1) 25 were defeated by Contax 38 AND JAGS (2) 32 defeated Garville 26

J6 – JAGS 23 were defeated by Woods Panthers 38

J7 – JAGS 32 were defeated by Woods Panthers 36

Sub Junior 2 – JAGS 21 were defeated by Harlequin 22. The team suffered another narrow loss this weekend by just the one goal to Harlequin. The girls played out a solid four quarters and gave it their all. The defenders, particularly in the goal circle, were outstanding and turned the ball over many times throughout the game. We all took a lot out of the game in recognising the areas we need to work on to improve for next week's game and look forward to that with great anticipation. Well done again to the whole group for sticking at it for the entire game. Coach Karen O’Shaughnessy.

Sub Junior 3 – JAGS 24 defeated Western Jets 23

Sub Junior 4 – JAGS 22 defeated Tango 20

Sub Junior 6 – JAGS 20 defeated Western Jets 14. After a slow start, down by 5 goals at quarter time, the girls put in a fantastic effort and turned the game around for a very deserving win. It was very encouraging to see the girls improvement as the game went on, their confidence in themselves and each other building, and their team play developing. Raquel and Ellen combined well in the goal circle, making the most of their scoring opportunities. Ashley, Tahlia and Madeline worked hard in defence and got some great intercepts and rebounds. Imogen, Chelsea and Rebecca worked the midcourt, providing good leads for the defenders to pass to, and working the ball up the court, delivering the ball and providing support to the goalies. Looking forward to consolidating and building on this win at training this week, ready for next weeks’ game. Keep up the good work girls. Coach – Katrina Day

Sub Junior 7 – JAGS 21 defeated Woods Panthers 11

Sub Junior 8 – JAGS 8 were defeated by Adelaide Wildcats 28. We had a very hard game against Wildcats with our first loss. The girls played really well even though the score said differently. They were up against tall and more experienced opposition but the girls should be proud on how they started to gel as a team and their versatility in positions. I must thank the parents for their positive outlook and support even though they lost. Coach Dani Johnson

Primary 1 – JAGS 10 were defeated by Tango 37. Our second game into the competition we came up against a much taller and stronger team who outplayed us all over the court. The girls put in a great effort, never giving up. Well done girls. Coach - Karen Braund

Primary 5 – JAGS 21 defeated Woods Panthers 6. “Another good win by the team this weekend. The girls have already shown signs of where their strengths may lie in relation to the game, however we plan to continue to share positions around and ‘have a go” at different areas. Brittany showed confidence this week having a turn in GS, achieving a goal after believing she couldn’t! Our aim is to put all the learned skills from training into our games and so far we have achieved this as the girls have truly improved quarter to quarter. The “3 D’s” (dodging, driving and defending) becoming our mantra. Well done again team! You are becoming a very well connected team and I am enjoying helping you learn and grow J” Coach Sue Jones.

Primary 6 – JAGS 22 defeated Cougars 1

Primary 7 – JAGS 6 were defeated by Cheerio 12

Sub Primary 1 - Jags 1 def by Woods Panthers 14

The girls put up a good fight this week - the scoreline does not reflect how well the girls played. Our three newies, Jade, Annie and Josie all played great games. Congratulations to Josie on scoring her first goal. Our defenders put up a good fight against some accurate shooting. We were unlucky that more of our shots for goal did not go in. The girls are starting to play as a team and they will all improve each week. Well done everyone. Coach Elyse Morris
